At Big Cottonwood Creek Equine, our story is rooted in passion and dedication. Led by Laurie, a widowed rancher with over six decades of life experience, we embody a commitment to excellence in every aspect of our work.
I’m a widow and I’m 68 years old. I love working outside fixing fences, mowing my yard and pastures. I also grow and bale my own hay.
To sell square bales to horse people, I make sure I fertilize my hay pastures as well as spray for weeds. I only use safe ingredients to protect all animals, pastures, and our water supply. I raise cows on my ranch.
I can rope but need more practice. I am loyal, detailed, and a responsible person. My love for all animals even has me moving turtles out of harm’s way during mating season when I see them trying to cross the road.
I have had horses most of my life. My love for horses started when I was just a toddler as my father trained Tennessee Walking Horses. I own 6 horses, 3 donkeys, 3 dogs, and 5 barn cats. I competed in timed events, speed, flags, etc. I was on an equine drill team for 5 years.
I am currently competing in sorting, penning, and Cowgirl challenges. I trail ride with friends as often as I can. I give my own horses/donkeys their annual shots except rabies. I also worm my horses/donkeys.
My horses/donkeys get their feet trimmed every 6 weeks and their teeth floated once a year. My horses are fed once a day and on pasture all the time. I have a veterinarian assistant certificate. I know when to call a veterinarian when it is an injury that I cannot take care of myself. As I own a working ranch I know how to care for animals.
My vision is to provide clients with the best care of their horses and other animals with no worries while they are on vacation or out of town.
I struggled with getting someone capable of really taking care of my horses while I was out of town. My love for animals, especially horses, has driven me to open Big Cottonwood Creek Equine to help others while on vacation or out of town. I want clients to be totally worry free while I’m taking care of their horses and other animals.
